Food for the Gods is a rich, chewy date-and-walnut bar with a buttery brown-sugar crumb.

Ingredients for Food for the Gods
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 cup butter, cubed and at room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
How to cook Food for the Gods
- 1.Heat the oven to 180°C and grease a baking tray or square baking pan.
- 2.Beat the butter until fluffy, then gradually beat in the brown sugar; add eggs and mix until smooth.
- 3.Whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; mix into the butter mixture just until combined.
- 4.Fold in dates and walnuts on low speed, then spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
- 5.Bake for 10 minutes at 180°C, reduce heat to 150°C, and bake 35–40 minutes until set and a tester comes out mostly clean.
- 6.Cool completely before cutting into bars and serving.
