Beef Pares sa Kanto
Beef Pares sa Kanto serves deeply braised, star-anise beef alongside fragrant garlic fried rice.

Ingredients for Beef Pares sa Kanto
- 3 lb beef chuck, cubed
- 1 Knorr Beef Cube
- 3 star anise
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, chopped
- 3 thumbs ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 5 tbsp cooking oil, divided
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 3 quarts water
- 4 tbsp cornstarch
- Salt, to taste
- 3 1/2 cups leftover white rice
- 5 cloves garlic, crushed
- Chopped green onions, for serving
How to cook Beef Pares sa Kanto
- 1.Heat 2 tablespoons oil, sauté beef fat if available for 2 minutes, then sauté onion, garlic, and ginger until onion softens.
- 2.Add beef and cook about 5 minutes until medium brown. Add water, star anise, and Beef Cube.
- 3.Cover and simmer on low for 2–2 1/2 hours until beef is very tender.
- 4.Season with soy sauce, brown sugar, onion powder, pepper, and salt. Stir in cornstarch slurry and simmer until lightly thickened.
- 5.For garlic rice, sauté crushed garlic in 3 tablespoons oil until golden; add rice, salt, and cook 3–5 minutes.
- 6.Serve beef pares and garlic rice in separate bowls, each topped with green onions.
