30 minutes · Serves 6
Ingredients for Ginisang Sayote
- 3 large sayote / chayote, peeled and sliced
- 3 medium ripe tomatoes, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 250 g ground pork
- 1 tbsp fish sauce
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 cup water
- Salt, to taste
How to cook Ginisang Sayote
- 1.Peel and slice the sayote evenly so it cooks at the same rate.
- 2.Heat the oil in a pan or wok over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until softened and fragrant.
- 3.Add the tomatoes and cook for 3–5 minutes, until soft and juicy.
- 4.Add the ground pork, breaking up any lumps with a spoon. Cook until no pink remains, then add the fish sauce and cook for about 1 more minute.
- 5.Pour in the water, cover, and simmer for 3–5 minutes. Taste and add salt as needed.
- 6.Add the sayote and stir to coat it in the sauce. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes, until tender-crisp.
- 7.Remove from the heat and serve with rice.
