Copycat Chicken Joy
This Copycat Chicken Joy pairs crisp seasoned chicken legs with a creamy chicken gravy.

Ingredients for Copycat Chicken Joy
- 12 chicken legs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups warm water
- 2 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp MSG
- 1 1/2 cups cornstarch
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tsp five-spice powder
- 1 tsp MSG
- Shortening, for deep-frying
- 3 tbsp leftover coating mix
- 2 cups rich chicken stock
- 1 1/2 cups chicken drippings from roasted chicken
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tbsp cream
How to cook Copycat Chicken Joy
- 1.Whisk 1 1/2 cups milk and egg in a large bowl. Set aside.
- 2.Combine garlic, warm water, 2 tablespoons salt, and 1 teaspoon MSG; brine chicken for no longer than 30 minutes, then discard brine.
- 3.Transfer chicken to the milk-egg mixture. Heat shortening to 180°C.
- 4.Mix cornstarch, flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, garlic powder, onion powder, five-spice powder, and remaining MSG.
- 5.Coat chicken in small batches by shaking it in the covered coating container, then deep-fry in batches for 10 minutes.
- 6.Whisk leftover coating mix, stock, drippings, 1/4 cup milk, and cream; simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until thick. Serve with chicken.
