Ginataang Alimasag
This ginataang alimasag is creamy and flavorful, with squash and sitaw absorbing the coconut milk and crab fat.

Ingredients for Ginataang Alimasag
- 5 medium crabs or 10 small crabs
- 1/2 small squash, cut into cubes
- 20 string beans, cut into 2-inch pieces, optional
- 3 cups coconut milk
- 1 small red onion, minced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 6 thin slices ginger
- Fish sauce, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Oil, for sautéing
How to cook Ginataang Alimasag
- 1.Steam the crabs until cooked. Remove the top shells, split the bodies in half, and reserve any crab fat from the shells.
- 2.Heat a little oil in a wok over medium heat and sauté the garlic, onion, and ginger until fragrant.
- 3.Add the squash and sitaw if using. Stir-fry briefly to coat them with the aromatics.
- 4.Pour in the coconut milk and bring to a boil. Add the vegetables and reserved crab fat, then simmer for 8 minutes until the squash begins to soften.
- 5.Add the crab bodies and simmer for 4 more minutes to heat them through and flavor the sauce.
- 6.Season with fish sauce and freshly ground black pepper, then serve hot.
