Ginataang Baka – Beef in Coconut Milk with Green Beans and Spinach

Ginataang Baka braises beef in spicy coconut milk with crisp green beans and spinach.

Ingredients for Ginataang Baka – Beef in Coconut Milk with Green Beans and Spinach

  • 2 lb beef chuck (paypay), cubed
  • 2 cups baby spinach
  • 1 1/2 cups long green beans, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 medium red onion, chopped
  • 3 thumbs ginger, thinly sliced
  • 5-10 Thai chili peppers
  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • 3-4 tbsp fish sauce (patis)
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 4-6 cups water
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil

How to cook Ginataang Baka – Beef in Coconut Milk with Green Beans and Spinach

  1. 1.Heat oil in a pot. Sauté onion, garlic, and ginger until the onion softens.
  2. 2.Add beef and sauté until lightly browned. Pour in coconut milk and water, then stir well.
  3. 3.Cover and cook over low to medium heat for 1 hour. Add chili peppers and continue cooking 30 to 60 minutes, until beef is tender.
  4. 4.Add green beans, cover, and cook 3 minutes. Season with fish sauce and black pepper.
  5. 5.Add spinach and cook 1 minute, just until wilted. Serve immediately.
