Binondo Style Tahu Goreng
Binondo-style tahu goreng pairs crisp fried tofu with cucumber, onion, peanuts, sesame, herbs, and a tangy-sweet soy vinegar sauce.

Ingredients for Binondo Style Tahu Goreng
- 2 pieces tofu, 250 g each
- Oil, for deep-frying
- 1 small cucumber, julienned
- 1 small white onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons peanuts
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- Chopped coriander, for garnish
- Sambal oelek, to serve
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons Chinkiang vinegar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons kecap manis
- 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- Oil, for sauteing
How to cook Binondo Style Tahu Goreng
- 1.Heat enough oil for deep-frying in a wok or deep fryer to 180 C.
- 2.Drain the tofu thoroughly and pat dry with paper towels, then fry until the outside is golden and crisp; remove and drain.
- 3.In a bowl, mix the water, Chinkiang vinegar, soy sauce, kecap manis, and dark brown sugar until the sugar is mostly dissolved.
- 4.Heat a little oil in a saucepan over low heat and gently saute the minced garlic until fragrant, then pour in the sauce mixture.
- 5.Raise the heat to medium, bring the sauce to a boil, and simmer for 2 minutes until slightly rounded in flavor.
- 6.Score the tops of the fried tofu so the sauce can seep in, place on plates, and spoon the hot sauce over them.
- 7.Top with cucumber, white onion, peanuts, sesame seeds, coriander, and sambal oelek before serving.
