Sinigang na Isda sa Kamias (Fish Sinigang)

This fish sinigang gets its clean, bright sourness from kamias simmered with tomatoes, onion, green pepper, and mustard greens.

Ingredients for Sinigang na Isda sa Kamias (Fish Sinigang)

  • 2 lbs fish steaks or 2 whole medium fish, cleaned
  • 12 fresh or fresh frozen kamias, also called bilimbi
  • 4 plum tomatoes, wedged
  • 1 medium yellow onion, wedged
  • 4 long green peppers
  • 6 to 8 mustard green leaves
  • 6 cups water
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

How to cook Sinigang na Isda sa Kamias (Fish Sinigang)

  1. 1.Bring 6 cups water to a boil in a large pot over high heat.
  2. 2.When boiling, add the tomatoes, kamias, and onion. Cover and boil for 8 minutes to build the sour broth.
  3. 3.Add the fish and long green peppers. Cover again, lower to medium heat, and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily.
  4. 4.Add the mustard greens, then season with salt and pepper and stir gently.
  5. 5.Turn off the heat, cover the pot, and let the residual heat wilt the greens for 5 minutes.
  6. 6.Transfer to a serving bowl and serve with white rice.
